[Dream Mine] In 1909 the Koyle Mining Company was formed with 114,000 shares of stock issued at $1.00 per share. (1)

-- During 1910
John Koyle foresaw "horseless carriages" bigger than railroad cars going down the road at great speeds. He especially received instruction on how to develop the mine. Plans included air shafts, escape ways and drainage tunnels. Instructions came to build a processing mill and storage bins for grain. By 1910, Koyle was appointed bishop of the Leland Ward in Spanish fork. The mining activities closely coupled with his church work attracted attention from the Mormon Church leaders. Apostle James E. Talmage, a geologist by training, came to look at the Dream Mine claims and could find no evidence that precious metals would ever be found in the strata being explored. The Mormon Church spoke out against the Koyle mine and associated activities and released John H. Koyle from the bishopric. However, Koyle's ongoing success as a seer and visionary continued to attract supporters and money, including some members of the Mormon Church leadership. Koyle was getting a mixed message from
the Church. For a time, Koyle moved some members of his family to Idaho to pursue farming and while there Koyle was appointed to another bishopric as a councilor, but released when the Mormon leadership learned of the appointment. He continued to attract opposition from the Church for the rest of his life. (1)

(George H. Brimhall) To upgrade the level of scholarship, Brimhall hired four Mormon professors trained at Harvard, Chicago, Cornell, and the University of California. The popular, articulate professors quickly won the minds and hearts of many students with their lectures in eugenics, communism, socialism, Darwinism, and "higher criticism" of the Bible.

1910. "Many stake presidents, some of our leading principals and teachers, and leading men who are friends of our schools … expressed deep anxiety" to Church Commissioner of Education Horace Hall Cummings. Brimhall, though an initial supporter of the professors, changed his view when some BYU students "told him they had quit praying because they learned in school there was no real God to hear them." A dream about the issue charged Brimhall with "enthusiastic support thereafter in setting things right." Both he and Cummings advised the four professors "not to press their views with such vigor," and Cummings took a report to the university trustees which ultimately led to the dismissal or resignation of the four. Apostle David O. McKay, visiting Samoa, falls "asleep, and beheld in vision something infinitely sublime. In the distance I beheld a beautiful white city. Though far ways, yet I seemed to realize that trees with luscious fruit, shrubbery with gorgeously-tinted leaves, and flowers in perfect bloom abound everywhere. The clear sky above seemed to reflect these beautiful shades of color. I then saw a great concourse of people approaching the city. Each one wore a white flowing robe, and a white headdress. Instantly my attention seemed centered upon their Leader, and though I could see only the profile of his features and his body, I recognized him at once as my Savior! The tint and radiance of his countenance were glorious to behold! There was a peace about him which seemed sublime -- it was divine! The city, I understood, was his. It was the City Eternal; and the people following him were to abide there in peace and eternal happiness. But who were they? As if the Savior read my
thought, he answered by pointing to a semicircle that then appeared above them, and on which were written in gold the words: 'These Are They Who Have Overcome The World -- Who Have Truly Been Born Again!'" (3)

I had two dreams. One was a brood of chickens and the old hen had been killed by a dog and torn to peices and a half grown chick was trying to mother the flock. The other was I was riding in a spring wagon and one of the horses fell dead and rolled over and broke the wagon tongue. (2)

Emmeline B. Wells, editor of Woman-s Exponent, writes: "Aunts Presendia [H. Kimball] & Zina [D. H. Young] used to interpret dreams for us but now there is no one to do it." This is one of the earliest comments about loss of spiritual gifts in Mormonism. (3)

[Apostle John Henry Smith Diary] ...I had a peculiar dream this morning. I dreamed that I was standing in front of some building where some kind of a meeting was being held. A tall dark complexioned man Picked my pocket, taking my watch. I captured him and gave him a very severe choking and recovered what he had taken.

We returned to our home in the city and found all well. (1)

[Apostle John Henry Smith Diary] .... Marriner W. Merrill related a dream of Bro. Samuel Roskelly about a large Nephite guarding the entrance to the Logan Temple when a body of U.S. Marshalls were talking of entering there during the Crusade.

Abraham O. Woodruff related a story told by his father of the Prophet Joseph Smith taking a flint arrow spike out of the back bone of a large skeleton found by Zion's Camp on their trip. (1)

[Apostle Rudger Clawson Diary] ...Apostle M. W. Merrill related a dream or vision given to Brother [Samuel] Roskelly in the Logan Temple during the "raid" when the enemy threatened to search our temples. A personage, who in appearance was seven or eight feet tall, appeared to him and said that he was once a Nephite warrior and that he had come to defend the temple. He assured Brother Roskelly that the enemy would not be permitted to enter the house of the Lord. Apostle Merrill said that later on a bitter anti-Mormon by the name of [Charles C.] Goodwin and several others organized a "raid" on the temple, but through fear abandoned their project.

It was moved and carried that Pres. Snow be asked to provide a suitable receptacle for church relics and that the same as fast as gathered be deposited in the temple.... (2)

[Apostle Rudger Clawson Diary] ... L. A. K[elsch]. Bore testimony to the truth of the gospel. Related a dream in which he saw the first person he baptized long before it happened. Dwelt upon the first principle[s] of the gospel.

A. H. L[und]. The sabbath day and its proper observance. R. C[lawson]. I made remarks upon the subject of signs following believers and related an incident where a young woman [Ella Jensen], who had apparently died, was restored to life and health by the anointing and laying on of hands of Pres. Snow and myself. (2)

[Apostle Marriner W. Merrill Diary] Salt Lake City. I attended meeting with First Presidency and Twelve today. Several matters were discussed and decided. One subject decided after full discussion was that Joseph F. Smith stood ahead and outranked Brigham Young in the Quorum of Apostles. The vote was unanimous. After business we partook of bread and wine. We adjourned at 3 p. m. At 4 p. m. I went with the First Presidency and Twelve to Apostle Heber J. Grant's home. Had dinner, which was served on small tables holding 4 and 6 persons. Had an excellent time until 8 p. m. I spoke twice and related two dreams by request. (3)

Brigham Young Academy president Benjamin Cluff Jr. along with a company of two teachers and about twenty students leave Provo expecting to be gone for two years. Their destination is South America where they hope to locate rivers, cities, and places that would "throw light on the divine claims of the Book of Mormon." When the expedition reaches Spanish Fork they are received with a Brass Band and a Banquet in their honor. They are received with so many banquets that they don't cook their own food until eleven days into the journey. At the Mexican Border Cluff negotiates with border officials to allow passage through Mexico while the rest of the group boards with church members in Thatcher, Arizona. Cluff lingers in Mexico hoping to marry a polygamous third wife, Florence Reynolds, daughter of George Reynolds, and one of his former students. Florence had been using his last name for the previous year. While Cluff is in Colonia Diaz, he orders other expedition members to begin
proselyting in Thatcher. The students discover why Cluff had prolonged his stay and became disheartened and angry. His assistant, Professor Walter Wolfe, reacts to the news of Cluff's delay by escaping to Nogales for an "extended three-day alcoholic spree." Wolfe (who had been told in a dream that he would find gold plates on the expedition and be able to translate them) later sells his mule to buy liquor. The students determine not to do any more missionary work and "took every opportunity to visit with the young ladies and to attend the weekly dances" in Thatcher. Apostle Heber J. Grant learns of the expedition's behavior while traveling in Arizona. He informs President Lorenzo Snow who sends Second Councilor Joseph F. Smith. Smith authorizes Cluff's plural marriage but instructs the group to either disband or proceed on their own as a "purely scientific" group without church endorsement. Most return to Provo but Cluff and five others press on to Columbia. A week after arr
iving, all but one student, Chester Van Buren, return to Utah. Van Buren remains in Colombia long enough to conduct scientific investigations. When he finally returns to Provo, his wildlife specimens become a prized collection. Cluff is censured by the Board of Trustees for "unwarranted use of authority" and is kept as Brigham Young Academy's president for only one more year. One of his last official acts is to change the name to "Brigham Young University." (4)

[President Wilford Woodruff Journal] May 17th I was quite wakeful before midnight and while I endeavoured to sleep had distressing dreams, so that I was quite tired in the morning. I had the brethren administer to me, Owen being mouth. Dr Snow called and after breakfast accompanied me to the office.... (1)

[Apostle Brigham Young Jr. Diary] ...I related a dream about relief coming to Pres[ident] W. ... (2)

-- Mar 7, 1898
[President Wilford Woodruff Journal] Mon Mar 7th I went to the office. Did not sleep very good last night. I requested my sons their wives and my daughters & their husbands to meet with me this evening at home as I wished to talk with them on some important matters. I also asked Bro L. John Nuttall to accompany me home this afternoon. After supper and at 7.30 we met in the parlor. There were present myself and wife Emma, Ashael & wife, Naomi, Owen and wife Ellen, Ovando Beebe & Clara, Jos Daynes & Blanche, W. McEwan & Alice L John Nuttall, Andrew Smith, my Grandson Henry Eugene Woodruff, 2 of Ashaels children and Mazie Berkiey the house maid.

I referred to my labors in Arizona some 18 years ago and related my experience among the people of [-] Brigham City &c in the united order and of my going into the San Francisco Mountains where I staid with some of the brethren who were herding sheep /some 10 days/. I was very busy reading the Book of Doctrine & Covenants. On one night I had a vision and in the morning a revelation which I wrote and afterwards sent a copy to President John Taylor and the apostles.

I said I wanted my family to hear it read as many things in it were now transpiring & coming to pass in our day. Many of the things spoken of in the revelation were attended to by President John Taylor and the apostles at that time. I had asked Bro Nuttall to come and read it because he had read it to the President & Twelve 18 years ago. Bro Nuttall then at my request read the revelation, after which I made some more remarks by way of explanation and requested all to try and remember these things, but it was not for them to mention them or speak of them in any place, until after they were made public by action of myself & the twelve apostles. I called on Asahel to pray which he did. Bro Nuttall then bore testimony to what I had said of the action of the Presidency & Twelve.

An interesting conversation then ensued on the United Order &c. Oranges and apples were passed around and all partook. Some began to go home at 10.30 having spent an enjoyable & profitable time. Sister Woodruff passed a Carnation to each one present with a request to have it pressed in commemmoration of this event. (1)

(Amasa Lyman) Martha Lyman Roper, eldest daughter of Amasa and Caroline Lyman, had a "manifestation or dream wherein her father was calling for help. When she heard and saw him she had the impulse to run and embrace him but he warned her to beware and pointed out a great yawning chasm between them, over which she couldn't go to him nor he to her. He requested Martha to appeal to his son, Marion, to help him for he was the only one in a position to do so. He also told her that he was very weary and tired of his black clothes and that he did so want to be with his family, his wives and his children whom he loved and longed for." (3)

[President Wilford Woodruff Journal] ...Note During the month of January, 1880 I was at Sunset, Arizona, with Bro. Lot Smith and the brethren with him who were trying to establish a branch of the United Order at that place. At this time the Government, through its officers, was using every means in its power to enforce the Edmunds-Tucker anti-polygamy law with the evident intent on the part of the officers, to break us up as an organized community. Being away from President Taylor and my Quorum, I felt deeply distressed in mind Concerning our condition as a people. While thus exercised I went into "the Wilderness," a region of Country called by this name situated about forty miles west of Sunset, and while there I stopped with two young men who were herding Sheep belonging to the people of Sunset. I remained with them ten days reading the revelations of God as contained in the Doctrine and Covenants, and praying fervently unto the Lord to reveal to me His mind and will concerning Zion.

On returning to bed on the night of the 25th of January, 1880, I found myself wrapt in vision, and the next morning the following revelation was given to me of the Lord which I wrote at the time:
Thus sayeth the Lord unto my servant Wilford Woodruff, I have heard thy prayer, and will answer thy petition.

And promised me the grace of God all my days. All of the conversation was of a most interesting character. [Brigham Young had been solicited by both democrats and republicans to run for Governor, but had expressed a strong distaste in that regard for sectional politics; 9 July 1895; 28 Sept 1895. [Apostle Heber J. Grant Diary] At 10 am attended a meeting of the Apostles in the Temple. Pres[iden]t Lorenzo Snow offered the opening prayer, and he very earnestly supplicated the Lord in behalf of Apostle Moses Thatcher. John Henry Smith said that he did not look on him the same as a man who had become addicted to the use of liquor to the extent that he was not responsible for his actions. Bro[ther] Moses had been addicted to the use of morphine. He related a dream he had which he had had in relation to Bro[ther] Thatcher, which had given him the impression that Bro[ther] Moses would not have any great influence in leading the Saints from the path of duty should he fail to harmonize with hie brethren, and we be under the necessity of taking action against him. Expressed the very best of feelings and perfect fellowship for the Presidency and the members of the quorum of the Apostles. Wilford Woodruff tells General Conference of a revelation he had: "When I have the vision of the night opened continually before my eyes, and can see the mighty judgments that are about to be poured out upon this world, . . . We have fourteen million people on this earth, and over them all there hangs a cloud of darkness almost entirely upon their shoulders. Can you tell me where the people are who will be shielded and protected from these great calamities and judgments which are even now at our doors? I'll tell you. The priesthood of God who honor their priesthood, and who are worthy of their blessings are the only ones who shall have this safety and protection. . . .God has held the angels of destruction for many years, lest they should reap down the wheat with the tares. But I want to tell you now, that those angels have left the portals of heaven, and they stand over this people and this nation now, and are hovering over the earth waiting to pour out the judgments. And fr

Apostle Abraham H. Cannon writes: "The Elsinore choir furnished the singing, and during the services yesterday they sang a piece to the words, "O My Father," which Bro. Durrans of Parowan received in a dream. He dreamed that he saw a Navajo blanket floating down a river, and as he watched it, he suddenly saw several Indians appear on it. They came to the shore where he stood, and one of them placed an instrument to his mouth something like a clarionet, on which he played the tune which was rendered, with the exception of one high note which he could not reach. Bro. Durrans arose and wrote out the piece. Some time thereafter a birthday party was given at his house when one of the brethren spoke in tongues. In the course of his remarks he said that this tune was the one used by the ancient Nephites, just before the last remnant was slain at the hill Cumorah about the year 421 A.D. It was a kind of lamentation." (3)

[Dream Mine] In August 1894 John Koyle experienced a dream in which he was visited by a figure from another world. The visitor carried him to a high mountain east of Koyle's house and into the mountain, showing him the various strata and explaining the meaning of the minerals. The visitor showed Koyle an ancient "Nephite" mine with large rooms of mined-out ore bodies. The rooms contained treasure and artifacts of an extinct civilization. Koyle was instructed that he was to open a mine and extract gold for the welfare of "his" people. Specific instructions were given for the mine development leading to rich ore bodies. The riches would be found and released to him and his followers during a time of world crisis. The wealth would be spread to others through Koyle and the people organized around the mine. In this way the name "Relief Mine" was attached to the project. The heavenly messenger made it known that the wealth would not be available for "self gratification." The dream
was repeated for a total of three times. Koyle talked of his dream to friends and others for support. (4)

[Apostle Abraham H. Cannon Journal] ... John W. Taylor spoke first; he related how he received a testimony of the divinity of the work while engaged at his father's saw mill some years since in Summit County. In a vision he saw the place where he had been at work cutting logs gradually lit up by a brilliant light which seemed to emanate from the east. This light continued to increase in intensity and with the increase he seemed to be pushed further away from its source. Finally he clasped his arms around the stump of a tree for the purpose of keeping himself in position. He saw the Son of God appear in the brilliancy of the light and then his hold upon the stump began to slip and he knew that should he release his grasp he would be thrust back with such violence that he would be dashed to pieces. As he was holding with grim desperation, he awoke. His father told him that the interpretation of the dream was that the bright light was the truth which would banish all truth hate
rs from before it, and the tree stump to which he was holding was a similar representation to that of the rod of iron in the Book of Mormon. Bros Taylor related several other manifestations of God's goodness to him in answer to his prayers. ... (2)

[Apostle Anthon H. Lund Diary] [Salt Lake Temple didication] ... Pres[iden]t Cannon [it is not exactly clear here when, I think in the evening session] once I was wind bound in San Francisco Bay. I had a dream that we ten elders on board were pulling at the windlass and trying to raise the anchor when we found we could not budge it an inch. Joseph Smith came and said: "George, come with me." We went to the front. "Now," said he; "we will pray." he prayed and then told me to pray. When we were done he said, "Take hold of the cable." I took hold and without the least effort raised the anchor. He said, "Let this be a lesson to you always." Bro[ther] Cannon said that the power of faith had been much underrated. In faith and with prayer we can do nearly everything. F. M. Lyman gave us his dream in the Penitentiary and Bro[ther] B. [Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] 3 We drove to Paragoony and spent the night at Brother Joseph Bartons. 32 Mils.

Emma Dreamed in the night that her gold ring was broaken in to, and split open lengthwaise. That night Martitia Smith Emmas Mother Died Aged 75. {Martitia Smith Died Nov 3, 1886 Aged 74} This was a remarkable thing. (1)

-- Mar 12, 1887
[Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] 12 I receivd 5 Letters from Jaques, Emma Clara Blanch and Owen. In company with Brother Thompson I road to Atkin. They let the water into the pond to day. We went to the pond to try to get a fish for the sick but got Nothing. I conversed with Br J. D. T. McAllister Concerning being sealed for the dead. He thought the Courts would require us to record in the Probate Courts office all Sealings for the dead as well as for the living so I let the matter rest untill we heard the opinion of Presidt Taylor.

I dreamed last night that the L D Saints were holding a great Conference at Salt Lake City at the great Temple and thousands of Mechanics were laboring hard to finish the Temple. I was requested to open the Conference As I was an Exile and they might not have me with them long. The Key of the Temple was given me to open it. As I went to the door A large Company were assembled and I overtook Presidt Brigham Young and He asked what the matter was with the great Company at the Door. Some one Answered the Elders did not want to Let the people into the Temple. He said Oh, oh, oh, and turned to me & said let all all into the Temple who seek for Salvation. I saw several who were Dead and among the Number my wife Phebe. I Believe there is some meaning to this dream. (1)

-- Mar 15, 1887
[Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] 15 I wrote 1 Letter to Jaques. Went up the pond. Got 2 ducks.

I dreamed again last night of Attending another General Conference. President Taylor was present but seemed in poor health. He seemed to think he should soon pass away. There was an immense body of the saints gathered together. I dream almost Evry night of these great Meetings. I do not now understand what those Dreams Mean. I received a Letter to day from A.M. Tenney. Presidet Taylor Died July 25/87. (1)

-- Jul 4, 1887
[Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] ... I received a Letter from George Q Cannon giving me an account of the dangerous Condition of Presidet Taylor. He is liable to drop off any day. I wrote Brother Cannon a Short Letter. Thus I am Satisfied that my late Dreams are abot to fulfilled and that Presidet Taylor is abot to be taken from us. Thermometer 110 in the Shade. (1)

-- Jul 25, 1887
[Apostle Heber J. Grant Diary] . . . I called at the place where Pres[iden]t Wilford Woodruff was stopping I talked with him until nearly 12 oclock, .... We had a long talk regarding the sickness of Pres[iden]t John Taylor and the changes that would of necessity take place in case of his death. He told me of a number of dreams that he had had since the middle of April that had impressed him with the idea that Pres[iden]t Taylor was not going to live long. I expressed my opinion of the way Pres[iden]t Cannon had treated our quorum, in plain terms and said that I had much more confidence in Pres[iden]t Joseph F Smith than in Pres[iden]t Cannon and that I never expected to see the day after the death of Pres[iden]t Taylor that Joseph F. Smith would not be a greater man among the latter-day saints than George Q Cannon. Pres[iden]t Woodruff seemed to share my opinion that Pres[iden]t Cannon had not treated our quorum with as much respect and consideration as he should have done, a
nd also seemed to fully endorse my good opinion of Pres[iden]t Smith, Pres[iden]t Woodruff favored bringing Pres[iden]ts Cannon and Smith back into our quorum in case of the death of Pres[iden]t Taylor, Pres[iden]t Woodruff said he would be willing to have Joseph F Smith made the Pres[ident] of the Church provided the quorum of the apostles should wish it but as near as I could judge he had no idea that such a thing would be done. Pres[iden]t Woodruff expressed himself as having no desire to become the President of the Church and I am convinced that he is perfectly sincere in what he said. I know that some of the members of our quorum are of the opinion that in case of the reorganization of the First Presidency after the death of Pres[iden]t Teylor and before the death of Pres[iden]t Woodruff that Bro[ther] Woodruff must be made the President. I have no such a feeling. I feel that Pres[iden]t Joseph F. Smith will succeed Pres[iden]t Taylor if the First Presidency is reorgani
zed. There is no man living on this earth that I love any more, if as much as I do Joseph F. and it may be my love for him, and not the impression of the Spirit that has given me such a very strong feeling that he is to be the next President of our Church, Of course I know that Pres[iden]t Woodruff must be the President of the Church while the First Presidency remains unorganized, and if the brethren decide that he is to be the Pres[iden]t of the Church when the First Presidency is reorganized then I shall be perfectly satisfied. I have unlimited confidence in Pres[iden]t Woodruff and can sustain him with all my heart Not having perfect confidence in Pres[iden]t Cannon may also have had something to do with bring me to the opinion that Pres[iden]t Jos[eph] F. Smith would succeed Pres[iden]t John Taylor, Pres[iden]t Woodruff felt that John Taylor had been the right man and in the right place but at the same time he could not endorse in his feelings Pres[iden]t Taylor's mining
schemes; felt that church funds should not go into mines. Felt that Bro[ther] Joseph F. Smith should come home, Did not endorse the manner in which A. M. Cannon had run things in the Salt Lake Stake, Felt determined to do his duty in case of the Pres[iden]t’s death. Felt that the Gardo house was a great mistake and wanted it closed after the President's death, Felt that, as he knew little or nothing regarding the way church funds had been handled an auditing committee should be appointed to fully investigate matters. As stated, I talked with Pres[iden]t Woodruff until nearly 12 oclock. There were many other items that we talked about but the above are the main ones, and all that I could now recall . . . asked me if I had any idea of what we could do with the Gardo house. Could not said in answer to a question from me that he favored the move for statehood said it changed matters very much in his mind after hearing my explanation. . . . Stated that many years ago he had dr
eamed that he was present at the dedication of the Salt Lake Temple, also dreamed the same thing in April last when dreaming of Pres[iden]t Taylor's sickness, I never enjoyed anything more than I have my visit with Pres[iden]t Woodruff. To me it is delightful to meet a man whose whole ambition is to know the mind and will of God and who desires with all of his heart and strength to carry out that will after learning it . . . I am not naturally possessed of the great humility of spirit that I see and admire so much in him. .... (2)

[Apostle John Henry Smith Diary] Bradford, Yorkshire

Cool and pleasant. I dreamed in the night that President Young and my Father were still alive but that they had been away from the people and returned not satisfied with the way President Taylor was doing. I saw Prest. Taylor moving from the yard into his own home, and he seemed to be much troubled in his mind. J. W. Young and my brother Charles seemed to be mixed up in the affair. My conversation with my Father was as real as in life. I enjoyed it very much. President Taylor came to where Father and I stood and they both disappeared. (1)

LDS History Chronology: Dreams

-- Jan 26, 1880
[Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] Mountains of Sunset, Arizona I read Coates lectures against Mormonism which were the inspiration of the Devil and full of lies. I Prayed the Lord to give me his Holy Spirit and light and truth. I went to bed filled with Prayer and Meditation. I fell asleep and slept untill about midnight. I awoke [and] the Lord poured out his spirit upon me and opened the vision of my mind so I could comprehend in a good measure the mind and will of God and his purposes concerning our Nation and the inhabitants of Zion and when the vision of my mind was open to comprehend the situation of our Nation, their wickedness, Abominations & Corruption and the Judgments of God and destruction which awaited them and when I comprehended the great and Mighty responsibility which rested upon the Quorum of the Apostles in the sight of God and the Heavenly Hosts, my head became a fountain of tears and my Pillow was wet as with dews of heaven and sleep departed from me and
the Lord revealed unto me our duty even the duty of the Twelve Apostles and all the faithful Elders of Israel and the following is a portion of the will of the Lord made manifest to me while dwelling in a shepherds tent in the wilderness surrounded by the drifting snows of the mountains while wrapped in the visions of the night.

A Revelation given to Wilford Woodruff in the wilderness of San Francisco Moon lain in Arizona on the 26 day of Jan 1880

Thus saith the Lord unto my servant Wilford Woodruff. I have heard thy Prayers, and Will answer thy Petitions. I will make known unto thee my will concerning the Nation who encumbers and land of promise and also concerning Zion and her inhabitants. I have already revealed my will concerning the Nation through the mouth of my servant Joseph who sealed his Testimony with his own Blood, which Testimony has been in force upon all the world from the hour of his death. What I the Lord have revealed in that Testimony and decree upon this Nation, and all the Nations of the Earth shall be fulfilled. Saith the Lord of Hosts, I the lord have spoken and will be obeyed. My Purposes shall be fulfilled upon this Nation and no power shall stay my hand. The hour is at the door when my wrath and indignation shall be poured out upon the wicked of this Nation. Their murders, blasphemies, Lyings, whoredoms and abominations have come up before my face and before the heavens and the wrath of mine
indignation is full. I have decreed Plagues to go forth and lay waste mine enemies and not many years hence they shall not be left to pollute mine heritage The Devil is ruling over his kingdom and my spirit has no place in the harts of the Rulers of this Nation, and the Devil stirs them up to defy my Power, and to make war upon my Saints. Therefore let mine Apostles and mine Elders who are faithful obey my commandments which are already written for your profit and guidence.

Thus saith the Lord unto my servant John Taylor and my servant Wilford Woodruff and my servant Orson Pratt and to all the residue of mine Apostles. Have you not gone forth in my name without Purse or scrip and declared the Gospel of Life and Salvation unto this Nation and the Nations of the Earth and warned them of the Judgments which are to come as you have been moved upon by the power of the Holy Ghost and the inspiration of the Lord. You have done this year by year for a whole Generation as man counts time. Therefore your garments are clean of the Blood of this generation and especially of this Nation.

Therefore as I have said in a former commandment so I the Lord say again unto mine Apostles go ye alone by your selves whether in heat or in cold and clens your feet with water pure water, it matters not whether it be by the running streams or in your closets but bear their testimonies before the Lord and the Heavenly Hosts

And when you have all done this then gather yourselves together in your Holy places and cloth yourselves in the Robes of the Holy Priesthood and there offer up your Prayers according to my Holy Law Let him who Presides be mouth and kneel upon the Holy Alter and there let mine Apostles bring all their testimonies before my face and before the heavenly Hosts and before the justified spirits made perfect and thus saith the Lord unto you mine Apostles when you bring these testimonies before me, let them by presented by Name as far as the spirit shall present them unto you. The Presidents of the United States, the Supreme Court, the Cabinet, the Senate & House of Congress of the United States, the Governors of the States and Territories, the Judges & officers sent unto you and all men & persons who have taken any part in persecuting your or bringing distress upon you or your lives or sought to hinder you from keeping my commandments or from enjoying the rights which the Constitu
tion of Law of the Land guarantee unto you.

And what I the Lord say unto you mine Apostles I say unto my servants the Seventies, the High Priests, the Elders, and the Priests And all my servants who are pure in heart and who have born testimony unto this Nation Let them go forth & cleans their feet in pure water and bear testimony of it unto your Father who is in heaven

And thus saith the Lord unto mine Apostls and mine Elders when you do these things with Purity of heart & the Lord will hear your Prayers and am bound by oath and covenant to defend you and fight your battles as I have said in a former commandment it is not my will that mine Elders should fight the battle of Zion for I will fight your battle Nevertheless Let no man be afraid to lay down his life for my sake for he that layeth down his life for my sake shall find it again and have eternal life.

The Nation is ripend in iniquity and the cup of the wrath of mine indignation is full and I will not stay my hand in Judgment upon this Nation or the Nations of the Earth I have decreed wars and Judgments upon the wicked and my wrath and indignation are about to be poured out upon them and the wicked and rebellious shall know that I am God. As I the Lord have. spoken so will I the Lord fulfill. I will spare none who remain in babylon but I will burn them up saith the Lord of Hosts As I the Lord have suffered so will I put all enemies under my feet, for I the Lord utter my word, and it shall be obeyd and the day of wrath and indignation shall come upon the wicked

And I say again wo unto that Nation or house or people who seek to hinder my People from obeying the Patriarchal Law of Abraham which leadeth to a Celestial Glory which has been revealed unto my Saints through the mouth of my servant Joseph for whosoever doeth those things shall be damned saith the Lord of Hosts and shall be broken up & wasted away from under heaven by the judgments which I have sent forth and shall not return unto me void And thus with the sword and by bloodshed and with famine & plagues and earthquakes and the Thunders of Heaven and the vivid lightnings shall this Nation and the Nations of the Earth be made to feel the Chastning hand of an Almighty God untill they are broken up and Destroyed, and wasted away from under heaven, and no power can stay my hand. Therefore let the wicked tremble, Let them that blaspheme my name hold their lips, for destruction will swiftly overtake them,

All that I the Lord have spoken through the mouth of my Prophets and Apostles since the world began concerning the Last dispensation and fulness of times, concerning my Church which has been called out of the wilderness of darkness and error, and concerning Babylon the Great, and what I have spoken through the Mouth of my servant Joseph shall all be fulfilled and though heaven and Earth pass away my words shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled Saith the Lord

These revelations and testimonies you have before. Let my Saints search the word of the Lord and treasure up wisdom and be prepared for that which is to come As I have decreed so shall my Judgments begin at the House of God There are those in my Church who have a name among you who are Adulterers and Adulteresses and those who blaspheme my name and those who love and make a lie and those who revel and Drink with the Drunken with the drunken (Sic) if they do not spedy (sic) repent of their wickedness and.Abominations they shall be severed from the ordinances of my house saith the Lord.

There are many who have need to repent whose hearts are set upon the things of this world, who asspire to the honors of men and do not honor the Priesthood, nor seek to build up the Kingdom of God as they should Neither do they learn or comprehend that the rights of the Priesthood are inseparably connected with the Powers of heavens and that the powers of heaven cannot be controlled or handled ownly upon the principles of righteousness such should repent and turn unto the Lord and seek for the Holy Spirit to guide them Judgments will begin at my house and from thence will they go forth unto the wicked, and the wicked cannot escape Blessed are the pure in heart, for my Blessings await them in this life and Eternal Life in the world to come

Thus saith the Lord unto you mine servants the Apostles who dwell in the flesh fear ye not your Enemies Let not your hearts be troubled I am in your midst I am your Advocate with the Father I have given mine Angels charge concerning you, mine eyes are upon you. and the Eyes of your Heavenly Father and the Heavenly Hosts, and all Justfied Spirits made perfect are watching over you. Your works are manifest before the face of my servants who have sealed their Testimony with their Blood and before all of my servants of the Twelve Apostles whom I have taken unto myself. The vail is taken from off their faces and they know your works They await your coming when you have finished your testimony in the flesh. Therefore be ye faithful untill I come. My coming is at the door. Call upon the Lord in mighty Prayer. Ask and you shall receive whatever you agree is touching anything and ask the Father in my name it shall be given unto you seek dilligently to build up Zion and magnify your
high calling and your enemies shall not prevail over you Zion shall not be moved out of her Place. Zion shall prevail against her enemies My People shall not be hindered in the building of my Temple unto my hold Name if they will harken to my voice and do as I command them.

The blood of my servant Joseph & Hyrum and of mine Apostles and Elders which have been shed for the word of God & Testimony of Jesus Christ cries from the ground for vengeance upon the Nation who have shed their blood but that Blood shall spedily be avenged and shall seace to cry unto me for the hour of Gods Judgment is fully come and shall be poured out without measure upon the wicked.

But harken & hear O ye Apostles Elders & people of my church to the word of the Lord concerning you that for all the Blessings that I will pour out upon you and the inhabitants of Zion, and the Judgments and destructions upon the wicked that I will be inquired of by you to ask the Father in my name to do and to perform these things for you. As I told all the House of Israel by my servant Moses that they should ask of my hand for all these blessings which I the Lord had promised unto Israel in the Latter Days. And as I the Lord ordained my Apostles who were with me in my ministry, and Promised them that they should sit upon Twelve Thrones Judging the Twelve Tribes of Israel so I say unto you mine Apostles whom I have raised up in these last days that I have ordained you to bear record of my name and of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentile first and then to the House of Israel. I have also ordained you to set upon Thrones and Judge the Gentiles and all of the inhabitants
of the Earth unto whom you have borne testimony of my name in the day and Generation in which you live.

Therefore how great is your calling and responsibility before me. Therefore gird up the loins of your minds and magnify your callings in the fear of God and prepare for the coming of the Son of Man which is nigh at the Door No man knoweth the day or the hour but the Signs of both heaven and earth indicate his (sic) coming as promised by the Mouth of my deciples the fig trees are leaving and the hour is nigh Therefore prepare yourselves O ye Saints of the Most High God with oil in your Lamps, for Blessed is he that watcheth for the Coming of the Son of man Again hear ye the word of the Lord O ye mine Apostles whom I have chosen in these last days to bear record of my Name and to Lead my People Israel untill the coming of the son of Man.

I the Lord have raised up unto my servant John Taylor to Preside over you & to be a Law Giver unto my Church He has mingled his Blood with that of the Martered Prophets Nevertheless while I have taken my servants Joseph & Hyrum Smith unto myself I have preserved my servant John Taylor for a wise purpose in me I have also taken many others of the Apostles unto myself for I take whom I will take and preserve in life those whom I will preserve according to the council of my own will.

And while my servant John Taylor is your President I wish to ask the rest of my servants of the Apostles the question Although you have one to Preside over your Quorum and over the Church which is the order of God in all generations Do you not all of you hold the Apostleship which is the highest authority ever given to man on the earth You do. Therefore you hold in Common the keys of the Kingdom of God in all the world you each of you have power to unlock the vail of Eternity and hold convers with God the Father and his son Jesus Christ and to have the Administration of Angels. It is your right privilege & duty to inquire of the Lord his mind & will concerning yourselves the inhabitants of Zion and their interest And whenever any one of you receive the word of the Lord Let it be written and Presented in your Council and whatever by a united council you deem wisdom to be presented unto the people let it be presented by the President my servant John Taylor as the word of the
Lord in this way you will uphold him & strengthen his hands as all the burden should not rest upon one man. For thus saith the lord All of mine Apostles should be fill of the Holy Ghost of inspiration and revelation and know the mind & will of God and be prepared for that which is to come Therefore let mine Apostles keep my commandments and obey my laws and the gates of hell shall not prevail against you Fear not for lo I am with you until I come I come quickly even so Amen.

A Prayer written By Wilford Woodruff By request of President John Taylor to be Presented at the Altar

O God Our Eternal Father, Thou who dwellest in the heavens Thou who hast Created the heavens and the Earth and all that dwelleth therein Thou art the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob. Thou hast sustained thy Prophets, Apostles, and anointed Ones from Eternity to Eternity. Therefore we Come before thee, in Confidence and in faith, as thy Saints, thine Apostles, and they friends, to make our wants known unto thee, the Lord Our God. Thou art our Eternal Father, the Father of our spirits, and hast Called us and ordaind us, and Commanded us to go forth unto the inhabitants of the Earth /in this generation to declare unto them the gospel of Jesus Christ the words of Life and salvation & thou hast Commanded us to go forth unto the Nations of the Earth/ unto the most notible Cities, towns and villages of the world reproveing them in righteousness of all their wickedness and abominations, and warning them of the desolation which awaiteth them if they reject the message and testimony w
hich thou hast sent unto them.

Therefore O Lord our God we have obeyed they commandments in thes things. We have gone forth through our Own Nation and the Nations of the earth, and have declared faithfully unto them the gospel of Jesus Christ. /We have travelled in poverty affliction & persecution./ We have travelled without purse or scrip and declaired thy word freely without money and without price, and been chargeable to no man, as thou knowest, for thou knowest all our ways. Thou hast given unto us of thy Holy Spirit and of the Testimony of Jesus Christ for which we thank thee, O our Father and we have found many of thy Sons and Daughters of the seed of Abraham who have received Our testimony among the Nations of the Earth and have been gathered Home unto Zion in the Mountains of Israel. For these things O our Father we feel to praise thy Holy Name.

Thou hast made us many promises through the mouth of thy servant Moses, and through many of the ancient Prophets and Apostles who by inspiration and revelation saw our day. Thou hast also made us many promises through the mouth of thy servant Joseph whom thou hast raised up to lay the foundation of thy Church and Kingdom in this last dispensation, and who has sealed his testimony with his own blood. Thou hast also Commanded us to ask the Father in the name of thy Son Jesus Christ for all blessings promised onto us.

Therefore O Our Father, we Come before thee for this purpose. Thou hast Commanded us O Our God through the mouth of thy Servant Joseph Smith the Prophet, that whenever any Nation or people or house or individual rejects us or our testimony of Jesus Christ or his gospel we should go alone by ourselves and Cleanse our feet with water pure water whether in heat or in Cold and bear testimony against that Nation, or man, or house, or people before thee our Father and thy son Jesus Christ and the Heavenly hosts.

Now our Father who art in heaven we bear testimony unto thee that from the hour that Moroni gave into the hands of thy servant Joseph the sacred Record from the hill Cumorah wicked and ungodly men sought his life and Continued to persecute him up to the hour of his death and finally shed his Blood and martered him with his Brother Hyram in Carthage Jail for the word of God & Testimony of Jesus Christ. And the wicked of this Nation have Continued to persecute thy servants from time to time, untill the present hour. The wicked of this Nation have driven thy people from town to town from state to State and finally driven them from the Nation into the wilderness, into these Mountains of Israel.

And now our Enemies are not satisfied because we still live and prosper. Even Our Nation itself is taking a stand against thy Church and Kingdom and has passed laws forbidding us to obey the Law of the Celesstal Patriarchal Order of marriage which thou hast Commanded us to obey. The blood of one of thy servants has been shed. Others have been imprisioned because they would not deny thy word.

Now O Lord our God we bear our testimony against these men, befor Thee and the heavenly hosts and we bear testimony unto thee Our heavenly Father that we according to thy Commandments unto us we have gone alone by ourselves and Clensed our feet in pure water and born testimony unto Thee and thy Son Jesus Christ and to the heavenly hosts against these wicked men by name as far as the spirit has manifested them unto us. We have borne our testimony against those who have shed the blood of thy Prophets and Apostles and anointed Ones, or have given Consent to their death and against those who have driven thy saints and imprisoned them and those who are still ready to deprive us of Life, Liberty and the privilege of keeping the Commandments of God.

And now O Lord our God Thou hast Commanded us that when we have done this we should gather ourselves together in our holy Places and Clothed in the Robes of the Holy Priesthood should unite ourselves together in Prayer and supplication and that we should bear our testimony against these men by name as far as wisdom should dictate. Now O God our Eternal Father we ask in the name of thy Son Jesus Christ that in this important act of our lives we may do nothing but what shall be acceptable in thy sight. May the same spirit of Mercy love and Charity dwell in our hearts that dwell in the Soul of Jesus of Nazareth when he gave up the Ghosts upon the Cross and may we do nothing in this act but which we do by the Commandment of God.

Now O Lord our God we present before thee, the God of Israel and thy son Jesus Christ and Before the heavenly hosts, and Before Abraham Isaac & Jacob, And all the Justified spirits made perfect And Before the Altar the following names:

/This list of Names are in print & I omit recording them here./ * * * * x x x x x x x x x x x x x x

O Lord our God these Classes of Men whether living or dead have made war against Thee and thy kingdom and thine anointed ones. Some have shed the blood of thy Prophets and Apostles. Others have Consented unto their death and have persecuted the Saints of God and have driven them from place to Place and finally driven them into these mountains of Israel and barren deserts and many of our Nation their Presidents Governors and judges still seek our destruction and still wish to pass laws to prevent us from Building up thy Kingdom and keeping thy Commandments and from redeeming our dead and performing the work which thou has Commanded us to do and to deprive us of our freedom as men and our rights as Citizens.

Now O Lord Our God thou knowest the Situation this Nation. All their Sins wickedness and abominations are open before thy face. They are not hid from thee. Thou knowest the hearts and intent of the Children of men towards thy People. Our Father in heaven we Pray unto thee and ask thee in the name of thy son Jesus Christ that thou wilt protect they Church, thy Kingdom and thy people from the Power of the wicked. O Lord may this Nation not have power to prevent thy Saints from keeping thy Commandments, from building the Temples of our God and redeeming Our dead.

Cloth thy servants John Taylor George Q Cannon and Joseph F Smith with the power of God and the Revelations of Jesus Christ and also their Brethren the Apostles that they may be of one heart & one Mind and have power to lead Israel unto Salvation and Eternal life. Cloth all the faithful Elders of Israel with the power of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. O Lord protect Zion that she may not be moved out of her place.

O Lord Bless George Q Cannon as the Representative of thy people. May He be maintained by thy Power and be Enabled thereby to ward off Every blow aimed at our liberties. May he be valiant in the testimony of Jesus Christ, that his Garments may be Clean from the blood of this Nation.

O Lord hear us from heaven thy Holy dwelling place and answer our Pe[ti]tions Sustain thine anointed ones and deliver us from the hands of Our Enemies. Overthrow the Evil designs of the wicked and ungodly against thy Saints and break Evry weapon formed against us. Give thy people O Lord power to build up Zion and Redeem Our dead and be prepared for the Coming of the Son of Man. And we will ascribe all the honor power and Glory unto God and the Lamb both Now and forever. Amen. [from the Appendix of Wilford Woodruff's Diary] (1)

[Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] Jan 27, 1880 I arose in the morning after the visions of the night with my heart filled with Joy and gratitude for the manifestations of the spirit of God unto me. I have written the Revelation of God unto me as it was given by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost. I had read the Revelation in the Doctrins & Covenants and Prayed earnestly unto the Lord to show me his mind & will Concerning myself and my brethren the Apostles and the Lord gave me that Revelation in answer to my Prayers. I spent the day in reading. (1)

Apostle Wilford Woodruff tells Sunday school meeting that he heard Joseph Smith say: "If the people knew what was behind the vail they would try by every means to commit suicide that they might get there but the Lord in his wisdom had emplanted the fear of death in every person that they might cling to life and thus accomplish the designs of their creator." Later Woodruff spends the evening preparing a "list of the Noted Men of the 17 Centaury and 18th including the signers of the declaration of Independance for Baptism on Tuesday the 21 Aug 1877." Though he did not record the incident in his journal, he later claims that he had been visited in dreams or visions by the signers of the Declaration of Independence, who had urged him to help redeem them by doing their temple work" Brigham Young preaches: "The great majority of men who have amassed great wealth have done it at the expense of their fellows, on the principle that the doctors, the lawyers and the merchants acquire th

[Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] 15 I wrote 28 & spent most of the day in the Office. I had a vary strange vision Copied in the office to day of a Desolating sickness which Covered the whole land.

A Vision

Salt Lake City, Night of Dec 16, 1877

I [ ] went to bed at my usual hour half past nine oclok. I had been reading the Revelations in the French Language. My mind was Calm, more so than usual if possible to be so. I Composed myself for sleep but Could not sleep. I felt a strange stupor Come over me and apparently became partially unconscious. Still I was not asleep, nor awake With a strange far away dreamy feelings.

The first I recognized was that I was in the Tabernacle at Ogden sitting on the back seat in the Cornor for fear they would Call upon me to Preach which after singing the second time, they did by Calling me to the Stand.

I arose to speak and said I did not Know that I had any thing special to say Except to bear my Testimony to the Truth of the Latter Day work when all at once it seemed as though I was lifted out of myself, and I said "yes I have sumthing to Say, it is this--some of my brethren present have been asking me what is Coming to pass, what is the wind blowing up. I will answer you right here what is Coming to pass shortly.

I was immediately in Salt Lake City wandering about the streets in all parts of the City and On the door of every house I found a badge of mourning, and I Could not find a house but what was in mourning. I passed by my own house and saw the same sign there, and asked "Is that me that is dead?" Sumthing gave me answer "No youll live through it all."

It seemed strange to me that I saw no person [on] the street in my wandering about through the City. They seemed to be in their houses with their Sick and Dead. I saw no funeral possession, or any thing of that kind, but the City looked vary Still and quiet as though the people were praying and had Controll of the desease what ever it was.

I then looked in all directions over the Territory, East west North and South, and I found the same mourning in every place throughout the Land. The next I knew I was Just this side of Omaha. It seemed as though I was above the Earth, looking down to it as I passed along on my way East and I saw the roads full of people principally women with just what they Could Carry in bundles on their backs travelling to the mountains on foot. And I wondered how they Could get there, with nothing but a small pack upon their backs. It was remarkable to me that there were so few men among them. It did not seem as though the Cars were running. The rails looked rusty, and the road abandoned, And I have no conception how I travelled myself.

As I looked down upon the people I Continued Eastward through Omaha and Council Bluffs which were full of disease, and women every whare. The States of Missouri and Illinois were in turmoil and Strife, Men killing each other, and women joining in the fight, family against family Cutting each other to pieces in the most horrid manner.

The next I saw was Washington, and I found the City a Desolation, The white House Empty, the Halls of Congress the same Every thing in ruins. The people seemed to have fled from the City and left it to take Care of itself.

I was next in the City of Baltimore and in the square whare the Monument of 1812 Stands, in front of St Charles and other Hotels I saw the Dead piled up so high as to fill the square. I saw Mothers Cut the throats of their own Children for the sake of their blood, which they drank from their veins, to quench their thirst and then lie down and die. The waters of the Chesapeake and of the City were so stagnant and such a stench arose from them on account of the putrefaction of Dead bodies that the vary smell Caused Death and that was singular again I saw no men except they were dead, lying in the streets, and vary few women, and they were Crazy mad, and in a dying Condition. Every whare I went I beheld the same all over the City, And it was horrible, beyound description to look at.

I thought this must be the End. But No I was seemingly in Philadelphia and there every thing was Still. No living soul was to be seen to greet me, and it seemed as though the whole City was without an inhabitant. In arch and Chestnut Street and in fact Every whare I went the putrifaction of the Dead bodies Caused such a stench that it was Impossible for any Creature to Exhist alive, nor did I see any living thing in the City.

I next found myself in Broad way New York and here it seemed the people had done their best to overcome the Disease. But in wandering down Broadway I saw the bodies of Beautiful women lying stone dead, and others in a dying Condition on the side walk. I saw men Crawl out of the Cellars and rob the dead bodies of the valuables they had on and before they Could return to their coverts in the cellars they themselves would roll over a time or two and die in agony. On some of the back streets I saw Mothers kill their own Children and Eat raw flesh and then in a few minuts die themselves. Whareever I went I saw the same scenes of Horror and Desolation rapine and Death. No Horses or Carriages, No busses or Street Cars, but Death and Destruction every whare.

I then went to the Grand Central Park and looking back I saw a fire Start and just at that moment a mighty East wind sprang up and Carried the flames west over the City, and it burned untill there was not a single building left Standing whole Even down to the wharfs. And the shiping all seemed to be burned and swallowed up in the Common destruction and left Nothing but a Desolation whare the great City was a short time before. The Stench from the bodies that were burning was so great that it was Carried a great distance across the Hudson River and bay, and thus spread disease and death whareever the flames penetrated. I Cannot paint in words the Horror that seemed to Encompass me around. It was beyound description or thought of man to Conceive.

I supposed this was the End but I was here given to understand, that the same horror was being enacted all over the Country, North South East and West, that few were left alive. Still there were some.

Immediately after I seemed to be standing on the west bank of the Missouri River opposite the City of Independance but I saw no City. I saw the whole States of Missouri & Illinois and part of Iowa were a Complete wilderness with no living human being in them. I then saw a short distance from the river Twelve men dressed in the robes of the Temple Standing in a square or nearly so. I understood it respresented the Twelve gates of the New Jerrusalem, and they were with hands uplifted Consecrating the ground and laying the Corner Stones. I saw myriads of Angels hovering over them and around about them and also an immens pillar of a Cloud over them and I heard the singing of the most beautif[ul] music the words "Now is esstablished the Kingdom of our God and his Christ and He shall reign forever and Ever, and the Kingdom shall never be Thrown down for the Saints have overcome." And I saw people Coming from the River and different places a long way off to help build the Temple, a
nd it seemed that the Hosts of the angels also helped to get the material to build the Temple. And I saw some Come who wore their Temple Clothing Robs to help build the Temple and the City and all the time I saw the great pillar of Cloud hovering over the place.

Instantly I found I was in the Tabernacle at Ogden yet I Could see the building going on and got quite animated in Calling to the people in the Tabernacle to listen to the beautiful music that the Angels were Making. I Called to them to look at the Angels as the House seemed to be full of them and they were saying the same words that I heard Before "Now is the Kingdom of Our God Esstablished forever & Ever." And then a voice said "Now shall Come to pass that which was spoken by Isaiah the Prophet "That seven women shall take hold of one man saying &c.

At this time I seemed to Stagger back from the pulpit & F D Richards and some one els Caught me and prevented me from falling when I requested Brother Richards to apologise to the audience for me because I stoped so adruptly and tell them I had not fainted but was exhausted. I rolled over in my bed and heard the City Hall Clock Strike Twelve.

[Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] ...We adjurned till Candle light when a large assembly met again and the evening was spent in bearing testimony. 7 Persons spoke. The spirit of the Lord was with them & they bore a strong testimony. Among the Number was Isaac Laney who bore a strong testimony of the work of the Lord. He spoke of his being Shot at Hawns Mill with some 17 Ball Holes in his body many of them apparently the most deadly shots as History declares yet he was preserved. He had a dream the night before it took place as follows:

+ He dreamed that a shower of serpents was all around him in the air rattle snakes & that many of them bit him all over his body but he was told that if he would not fall down but keep running that they would not hurt him. After he was bit a man Came to him & said Brother Laney do not decieve yourself about living. No man ever bit as you are Can ever live. But he said I shall live & not die.

Brother Laney testified that when he was shot this dream was fulfilled. When. the Balls peareed his body through & through it did not hurt him more than the scrach of a pin allthough He bled at the mouth like an ox with his throat Cut yet he kept running untill he was out of the reach of the mob. [Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] ... I visited Brother A. O. Smoot. I found him vary sick. I laid hands upon him with Dr Jeter Clinton & prayed for him. His family was discouraged about him fearing He would die. On my return to the office I spoke to President B Young about him. He said He would be around again in few days. He saw him in a dream the night before & thought He would soon get well. (1)
