The following is the report of the regular meeting of the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles held this morning in the Temple at 10:30... Pres[iden]t. Penrose: On Thursday afternoon, July 24th, accompanied President Smith and party to Canada. Through the courtesy of Mr. Bancroft they were furnished with a private car, by which means they were very comfortably accommodated. Had a most excellent journey, arriving at Cardston Saturday evening. On Sunday three meetings were held. After the morning session they went to the temple site grounds, which property is owned by the Church, which commands a view of nearly all the surrounding country. A spot was selected by the President for the erection of the Temple, and as take driven to mark the northwest corner of the building. After the afternoon meeting they went again to the temple grounds, accompanied by the congregation on which occasion the spot selected and the grounds were dedicated as the site on which the
temple is to be erected. Regular services were held, after singing by the choir. Prayer was offered by Pres[iden]t. Penrose, and Pres[iden]t. Smith offered the dedicatory prayer, which was stenographically reported, after which brief remarks were made by Bishop [Charles W.] Nibley and the closing prayer offered by Bro[ther]. The following is the report of the regular meeting of the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles held this morning in the Temple at 10:30.
...Bro[ther]. George Albert Smith, who had been absent in the east for several weeks, now made a report. He gave details of the death of Pres[iden]t. Ben E. Rich, also of his visit to the Hill Cumorah, and to the farm owned by the Church at Palmyra [New York]. ... (3)
Attended Council meeting of the First Presidency and Twelve. At this gathering eleven of the Twelve were present, Elder George Albert Smith having arrived home in time for the meeting. This was observed as fast day by the Council and the Sacrament was administered as usual on such days. (4)

(President Smith busy getting ready to leave at noon today for Chicago [Illinois] to attend dedication services of the two meeting houses there, the South Chicago Church, at 10723 South Perry Avenue, and the Logan Square church, corner of Wrightwood and Sawyer Avenues. He is to be accompanied by Bishop [Charles W.] Nibley, also Bro[ther]. George Albert Smith, who was now excused.) ... (3)

The following is the report of the general meeting of the First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles held this morning at the Temple at 10:30. ...Bro[ther]. George Albert Smith said that two weeks ago today President Smith, accompanied by members of his family, Bishop [Charles W.] Nibley and members of his family, Sister [John R.] Winder and he, left for Chicago [Illinois] to attend the dedication services of the two meeting houses--Logan Square and South Chicago--reaching there Saturday afternoon and were met by Pres[iden]t. [German E.] Ellsworth. Went to Rosedale and held meeting in the afternoon in the South Chicago Chapel, 180 present. President Smith offered the dedicatory prayer and made remarks, as did other brethren. This house has a half basement and home for the elders laboring in that vicinity. The following day (Sunday) three meetings were held in the Logan Square chapel, which has a seating capacity of about 550, including its gallery. At the morning mee
ting the houses was well filled, 667 in attendance in the afternoon. The dedicatory prayer was offered by President Smith. Three persons baptized in the afternoon in the font in the basement of the building. Basement is fitted up for Sunday School, Mission offices, store rooms for books, etc. The congregation filled the house at night. After leaving Chicago they held meeting at Independence [Missouri], about 200 present. President Smith visited his cousin, President Joseph Smith [III] of the Reorganized Church, whom he found totally blind and in poor health. He is now 81 years of age. ... (3)
