[Deseret] Ogden decides to adopt the electric light. They decided to light the city for $3,000 per year, with 60 days trial of the light before the contract was formally entered into. (4)

The First Presidency is reorganized three years after President Brigham Young's passing. John Taylor is named president. (5)

[Lucy Mack Smith] The first RLDS edition of Biographical Sketches is printed at Plano, Illinois. (6)

[Mormon Tabernacle Choir] The choirs first trip away from Salt Lake City is undertaken to American Fork, Utah. (7)

[Mormon Tabernacle Choir] Under the direction of Evan Stephens, the size of the choir increases from 125 members to over 300. (7)

David King Udall (1851-1938), while living in Nephi, Utah, was called to be the Mormon bishop in St. Johns, Arizona, a small and primarily Hispanic Catholic community. (9)

[Quorum of the Twelve] Orson Pratt, the last surviving member of the original quorum, dies. (11)

[Lucy Mack Smith] Martha Jane Coray, mother of twelve and BYU's first woman regent, dies at Provo. (6)
