[U.S. Religious History] A Joint Resolution of the Kentucky General Assembly was passed, requiring public schools in the state to include lessons on Christian influences on America and calling for the display of the Ten Commandments in schools and on State Capitol grounds. (1)

100 millionth copy of the Book of Mormon distributed. (2)

The first general conference to be held in the new Conference Center convened, with more than 400,000 requests for free tickets, far exceeding the 21,000-seat capacity of the hall. (3)

The first General Conference at the completed LDS Conference Center (seats 21,333) takes place. (World‘s largest conference hall dedicated to religious purposes). (4)

General Conference is held for the first time in the soon to be completed General Conference Centre, Salt Lake City. (5)

The Palmyra New York Temple, located on what was once the 100-acre Joseph Smith Sr. farm and overlooking the Sacred Grove, was dedicated by President Hinckley. An estimated 1.3 million members participated in the first session, via the Church satellite system. (3)
