[Apostle John Henry Smith Diary] Salt Lake City.
At 11 a.m. Lorenzo Snow, Brigham Young, Moses Thatcher, F. M. Lyman, Heber J. Grant, M. W. Merrill, Abraham H. Cannon and Myself met in Counsel. Bro. Moses Thatcher read his letter to be sent to the Bear Lake Post and it was approved by the brethren.
I was summoned to go before the canvasing board to protect against their going into the ballot Boxes. They accepted services. (1)

Prest. W. Woodruff, Jos. F. Smith, Lorenzo Snow, Franklin D. Richards, B. Young, F. M. Lyman, M. W. Merrill, Abraham H. Cannon, and Myself met in Council at the Temple. It was unanimously determined that Bishops should be ordained as well as set apart.

Prest. W. Woodruff, Geo. Q. Cannon, Jos. F. Smith, Lorenzo Snow, Franklin D. Richards, Brigham Young, Moses Thatcher, F. M. Lyman, M. W. Merrill, and Myself attended the Council in the Temple at 11 a.m.
The question of allowing men to marry other than their plural wives under the law when the first wife dies came up and it was determined to advise against it.
Josephine and I went to the Theatre to see James & Warde. (1)

I [i.e., Lorenzo Snow] I regret the course Brother [B. H.] Roberts has taken in the convention in speaking on woman's suffrage but perhaps he can satisfactorily explain his position and conduct. [Note: The next day, during a meeting of the Twelve and First Presidency, the following also criticized Roberts's stand against including suffrage in Utah's constitution: Wilford Woodruff, George Q. Cannon, Joseph F. Smith, John Henry Smith, Heber J. Grant, and John W. Taylor.] ... (2)
