At 11 o'clock the regular council meeting of the Presidency and the Apostles was held in the Temple. There were present: President Lorenzo Snow, Brigham Young [Jr.], John Henry Smith, George Teasdale, Anthon H. Lund, Rudger Clawson and Reed Smoot. ...
President Snow stated that Mr. Thomas Kearns had called to see him and to make propositions regarding the selling of Saltair pavilion, the railroad and perhaps the Cedar [Utah] coal mines for stock in the new Los Angeles [California] railroad about to be built and he desired to present the matter to the brethren for their consideration. Elders Reed Smoot and John Henry Smith expressed themselves in favor of such a move. Elder Brigham Young expressed doubts as to the wisdom of such an action. We have had occasion to repent having disposed of properties acquired in the
past and perhaps we would regret it if this agreement was made. However the mind and the will of the Lord could be obtained. ... (1)

Called upon Bro[ther]. B[enjamin]. F. Johnson who seems to be getting his eysight again. Advised him to begin to labor in the ministry as it the only way I know of to get his wives back again. Poor old man not a wife that will come near him in his forlorn condition. [September 24, 1900; Journal History] The Presidency were at the office. Elder Charles O. Card of Alberta [Canada] Stake was at the office in the morning. Brother Charles W. Penrose called and brought a large roll of manuscript written by John W. Rigdon and purporting to be the life of his father, Sidney Rigdon, and which is supposed to contain evidence that the Prophet Joseph Smith introduced plural marriage, it also contained what was known as Sidney Rigdon's "Salt" sermon and testimony showing that Sidney Rigdon knew nothing of the Book of Mormon until it was presented to him by Parley P. Pratt and others. He desires the Church to purchase this manuscript of him for $500. It was proposed to refer the manuscript to a committee to report on its merits. An order for $16,916. was issued for general charity account for the six months ending December 31. (2)
