First general conference in the new Tabernacle. (1)

[Quorum of the Twelve] Amasa M. Lyman deprived of apostleship. He was excommunicated on May 12, 1870. (2)

[Joseph F. Smith] Set apart as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. (3)

Joseph F. Smith was sustained as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve. (He was previously ordained an apostle.) (2)

[Mormon Tabernacle Choir] The present dome-roofed Tabernacle is completed, including a new a larger organ. (4)

Relief Society program reemphasized by President Brigham Young, under President Eliza R. Snow. (5)

Relief Society reestablished with Eliza R. Snow as president. (1)

Relief Society reorganized under the direction of President Brigham Young. (6)

[Brigham Young] The Tabernacle is completed. Reorganizes the Relief Society. (8)

The Deseret Telegraph Company was organized. (9)

[Utah Statehood] In January 1867 the legislature petitioned Congress to repeal the Morrill Act and, in the words of LDS historian Andrew Jenson, "prayed for admission into the Union as a State." Neither objective was achieved. (10)
