Was told by Apostle [Francis M.] Lyman that some women thought I was a tyrant because of my speech on Sunday and he replied that he knew of no man that was more completely run by his wife. This was not true, and was not appreciated, notwithstanding it was spoken by one of the Apostles. Lyman is jealous & hit me in a tender spot. His friendship I do not count on. (2)

Presidents Lorenzo Snow, George Q. Cannon and Joseph F. Smith were at the office, and in the afternoon they were waited upon by Brothers LeGrand Young and Robert S. Campbell, in regard to business of the Union Light & Power Company. President Cannon and Brother Young were about to go to New York on this company's business, and they hoped that President Snow, as trustee-in-trust, would be able to see his way clear to paying the balance necessary to lift the guarantee of the First Presidency, given to Mr. Joseph Banigan in his life time, and now held by his heirs; which guarantee was for the bonds of the Pioneer Electric Power Company. This was the object of the meeting, to which President Cannon had invited Brothers John Henry Smith and Heber J. Grant, they having expressed themselves previously as in favor of such action by the Trustee-in-trust. They favored the raising of the money necessary by borrowing it at home, instead of partly meeting the obligation and giving a note to the Banigans for the balance, it being their desire to lift the whole obligation and thus get the guarantee out of the hands of the parties in question. At least this was the ground taken by Brother LeGrand Young.
President Snow informed the brethren that he would pay no more than $75,000, and would give his note for the balance.
Brother Grant expressed the fear that the Banigans might come in by and by and claim that the transaction was off, because we had failed to take advantage of the agreements entered into; and this would complicate matters.
President Snow replied that if they did that he might be
tempted to ignore the guarantee as not being a legal document. He told Brother Grant that he had made up his mind to do so much and no more, and this ended the interview.
The President expected to be served with papers of arrest at four o'clock this afternoon, charging him with unlawful cohabitation. He had been advised by friends to fight the case, and had concluded to do so. It was afterwards learned that the prosecuting attorney had postponed issuing the papers for a few days. (1)
