-- Jan 21, 1901; Monday
Presidents [Lorenzo] Snow and [George Q.] Cannon were at the office today, President [Joseph F.] Smith in Colorado.
A woman publisher called and requested of President Snow that he furnish a number of illustrations to be composed of portraits of himself and others, also of principal buildings and so forth, to furnish a part of her story in relation to the live stock convention which is to be held here in Salt Lake City and which she is to prepare for a paper known as "Kings and Queens." President Snow consulted with Elders Charles W. Penrose and Horace G. Whitney of the Deseret News in relation to the mater and the cost of such a thing and was advised by them to accept of the
woman's offer. President Snow thereby authorized these brethren to go ahead and prepare the illustrations.
President Cannon, Bishop John R. Winder, Robert S. Campbell and Rudger Clawson spent a portion of the day at the instigation of Frank J. Cannon, examining a special lighting scheme which he has an interest in and which he claims will supersede the electric light and gas light, it being clearer, brighter and cheaper to produce. President Snow did not accompany these brethren. Mr. Frank J. Cannon desires the Union Light Company to buy a controlling interest in this new scheme. However President Snow did not feel so sanguine over the matter. (1)

Had a meeting with Mr. [Thomas] Kearns. He pledge[d] his honor to have the Constitutional amendment blocked. Said he would defend me in trouble with his own life. (2)
