At 11 o'clock the Presidency and Apostles held their regular meeting in the Temple. The brethren met in prayer circle after which the regular business of the meeting was considered. There were present: Presidents Lorenzo Snow and Joseph F. Smith; Brigham Young [Jr.], John Henry Smith, George Teasdale, Heber J. Grant, Anthon H. Lund, Rudger Clawson, A[braham]. O[wen]. Woodruff and Reed Smoot. ...

Elder Heber J. Grant stated that he thought it was time to release President Platt D. Lyman from the Presidency of the European Mission, he having been there about three years. He also suggested that Elder Lyman be chosen to succeed the late President [Francis A.] Hammond of the San Juan [Utah/Colorado] Stake, and further expressed the opinion that Elder J. Golden Kimball would make a good president of the European Mission. President Smith, while agreeing with the suggestion that Elder Lyman be released, felt that it would be better to choose one of the Apostles or a High Priest to preside over that mission. President Snow acquiesced in the remarks of President Smith and invited the Apostles to choose one of their number for that position. ...

Elder Henry C. Rogers, of Maricopa [Arizona] Stake wrote to the presidency stating that no visit had been made among the Papago Indians the last summer on account of drouth, there being no grass for their horses. He asked that the appropriation of

$600. be made to assist them.

President Smith mentioned the fact that for at least one year the Colorado Mission had been without an active President, Brother John W. Taylor having been in Utah, and he now recommended that some one be appointed to succeed Brother Taylor and that he be released; also that Brother Taylor be conferred with in regard to his successor. This met the approval of the brethren and was carried. ...

Elder Grant asked that the use of the tabernacle be granted for a testimonial concert to Elder Joseph Ridges, builder of the Tabernacle Organ. He believed that a substantial sum could be raised for him in this way. The request was granted. ... (1)

My son Joseph A. was married by Bro[ther] [John R.] Winder in Temple. I would have married them but was a little late. Evening attended a meeting of family at Mrs. C[atherine]. C. Y[oung]. Excellent supper. Miss Lewis is a charming girl, quite as good as she is pretty. ... I ought to obey the word of wisdom more carefully if I desire more perfect health. God help me to put away all my weaknesses. I joke to[o] much. My Sons T[homas]. H. Merrill & Wives Emma & Maggie Alma & Wives Esmareld & Rebeca Marriner Desesed represented by T[homas] H Merrill & May Cordon Merrill & Eliza Lucina Merrill all had Second Anointing to day. I Officiated and administered the Ordinance to them all. Nine in number. (2)
