Tabernacle Choir participated in its first satellite broadcast. (4)

The first worldwide satellite broadcast of a live television program takes place over the recently launched Telstar satellite. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is invited to perform at Mount Rushmore for the event. Viewership was reportedly about 300 million. (SatelliteMedia History) (2)

The Church purchased a shortwave radio station, WRUL, with a transmitter in Boston and studios in New York City. It was subsequently used to transmit Church broadcasts to Europe and South America. (8)

Church purchased short-wave radio station WRUL and began broadcasting to countries outside the United States. (4)

[Joseph Smith] N. Eldon Tanner is ordained to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. (9)
