Lorenzo Snow, Apr 24, 1899; Monday

-- Apr 24, 1899; Monday
Apostle Brigham Young [Jr.] reported to President Snow the substance of an interview had by President [George Q.] Cannon and himself with officials of the Canadian Pacific railway system, chaperoned by Joseph H. Young, local superintendent of the Oregon Short Line; which interview was arranged for on Saturday evening to take place the following morning at the President's Office. Brother Young reported that the interview was a very pleasant one, the Canadian gentlemen offering to place at the disposal of the First Presidency at any time a private car to take them over their railroad system.

This afternoon, from about 4 to 6 o'clock, President [Lorenzo] Snow was engaged in private conversation with President Cannon upon the subject of the turning over by the latter of the "dedicated" Bullion-Beck mining stock and the accounting for dividends upon the same. President Snow, after President Cannon had gone for the night, informed Secretary [George F.] Gibbs that he had told Brother Cannon that he would prefer the tender of the stock and the accounting to be submitted to the Council of the Apostles, or to such of the Apostles as Brother Cannon might name, and that if they accepted of the same he would agree to accept of it. President Snow also stated that President Cannon expressed a desire to have this "dedicated" stock used for the purpose of covering the losses sustained by the Church in the Sterling mine. This proposition was to be considered.

Prior to this interview Elder William T. Jack, President of the South-western States Mission, had a long talk with President Snow before setting out upon his return to St. John, Kansas, the seat of his missionary labors. Brother Jack convinced President Snow that he could have tracts and books printed at St. John much cheaper than in this city, and he stated that he had taken the liberty of doing so, thus saving money to the mission. President Snow approved of his course. (1)
