Lorenzo Snow, Apr 26, 1899; Wednesday

-- Apr 26, 1899; Wednesday
Presidents [Lorenzo] Snow, [George Q.] Cannon and [Joseph F.] Smith were at the Office. Bishop [William B.] Preston called this morning and had a talk with President Snow about securing some land in Bear Lake Valley [Idaho/Utah] as a home for the Church cattle. The President approved of the proposition. He also informed the Bishop that he had concluded to visit the settlements by carriage conveyance as President [Brigham] Young used to do, and asked him to see what would be necessary in the line of furnishing carriages to go as far south as St. George [Utah].

As the result of a conversation between Presidents Snow and Cannon, it was decided that all the Apostles within reach should be invited to be present at their regular meeting to-morrow, as important business was to be considered.

The Federal Building committee called on the Presidency, representing that they had succeeded in getting subscriptions for street paving to the required amount and perhaps over. After quite a lengthy conversation, it was decided to offer to the government as an inducement for placing the building on the News corner seventeen and a half rods square, with a view to opening up and setting apart for public use a street around this property. This was to be done for fear that if twenty rods square were tendered and accepted, the government would open up this street and regard it as private.

The sum of $7.50 was appropriated to purchase one hundred pamphlets entitled "Mormons and Mormonism" by Mr. Charles Ellis, to be sent to Mr. William George Garrison. (1)
