The last official performance of the pageant City of Joseph is held in Nauvoo, Illinois. It is to be replaced in 2005 with a new pageant commemorating Joseph Smith's 200th birthday. (1)

[Quorum of the Twelve] Dieter F. Uchtdorf and David A. Bednar added to Quorum. (2)

Dieter F. Uchtdorf and David A. Bednar are ordained Apostles and join the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles after being sustained on October 2. (1)

Preach My Gospel, a new missionary manual that introduced changes in the way missionaries teach, plan, and work, was introduced in missions worldwide. (3)

The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve introduce "Preach My Gospel," a comprehensive and far-reaching program designed to prepare and strengthen missionaries. The 230-page booklet addresses every aspect of missionary service and is considered the most complete, orchestrated effort in the history of the Church to unify the missionary effort. (4)
