During 2005, tens of thousands of Latter-day Saint youth participated in commemorative cultural events across the globe in a worldwide commemoration honoring the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Joseph Smith and the 175th anniversary of the organization of the Church. (4)

The six-year legal battle over the Church Plaza, located between the Salt Lake Temple and the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City, ended when the deadline passed for the ACLU and its plaintiffs to appeal a decision by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver, Colo. The appeals court on Oct. 3, 2005, upheld the sale of one block of Main Street to the Church. (4)
