President Gordon B. Hinckley, who led The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through twelve years of global expansion, has died at the age of 97. (1)

President Thomas S. Monson, a counselor to Presidents Ezra Taft Benson, Howard W. Hunter and Gordon B. Hinckley, was ordained and set apart as the 16th president of the Church. Set apart as his counselors were President Henry B. Eyring and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. (3)

Thomas S. Monson becomes sixteenth President of the Church. (4)

President Henry B. Eyring and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf are called as the First and Second Counselors in the First Presidency. (5)

[Quorum of the Twelve] First Presidency reorganized with Thomas S. Monson as LDS Church President, Henry B. Eyring as First Counselor, and Dieter F. Uchtdorf as Second Counselor. (6)

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced today the establishment of The Church Historians Press, a new imprint for publishing works related to the Churchs origin and growth. (1)

Craig Jessop, renowned music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, has resigned from his assignment after over a decade of outstanding service with the choir. (1)

A statement has been circulated that asserts in part that the youth of the Church today "were generals in the war in heaven ... and (someone will) ask you, 'Which of the prophet's time did you live in?' and when you say, 'Gordon B. Hinckley' a hush will fall,... and all in attendance will bow at your presence." A notice from the Office of the First Presidency reads: "This is a false statement. It is not Church doctrine. At various times, this statement has been attributed erroneously to President Thomas S. Monson, President Henry B. Eyring, President Boyd K. Packer, and others. None of these Brethren made this statement." (1)
