I met at 5 p.m. with H. J. Grant and family at the Lion House. He entertained the Presidency and Twelve, the Presidents and they who presided under him in the British Mission. My wives were with me.
The Church was organized 80 years ago to day and I was chosen as second Counsellor to President Joseph F. Smith. (2)

[Quorum of Twelve] Anthon H. Lund was set apart as first counselor and John Henry Smith as second counselor to Pres. Joseph F. Smith; Joseph F. Smith, jun., was ordained an Apostle by Pres. Joseph F. Smith and set apart as a member of the quorum of Twelve Apostles; Elder Rudger Clawson was appointed to succeed Charles W. Penrose in the presidency of the European mission. (4)

The Presidency and Twelve and Patriarch met at 10 a.m. Joseph F. Smith Jr. and Geo. F. Gibbs being with us.
Present Joseph F. Smith, Anthon H. Lund, Francis M. Lyman, Myself, Heber J. Grant, Rudger Clawson, Hyrum M. Smith, Geo. F. Richards, Orson F. Whitney, David O. McKay, Anthony W. Ivins, Joseph F. Smith Jr., Patriarch John Smith and Secretary Geo. F. Gibbs.
I offered the opening Prayer. President Francis M. Lyman gave a charge to Joseph F. Smith Jr.
President Joseph F. Smith set Anthon H. Lund apart as his first Counsellor and Myself as second Counsellor. He also Ordained Joseph F. Smith Jr. an Apostle. All of the brethren laid their hands on with President Smith but the one receiving the blessing and Secretary Gibbs.
Rudger Clawson was mouth at the altar.
We cleared up Routine business.
A party of about sixty was entertained at the Beehive house.
Chas. W. Penrose was released from Presiding [over] the European Mission. Rudger Clawson was chosen to fullfill that duty of presiding in Europe. (2)
