At 3 p.m. I attended fast meeting in the 17th ward.

We had sixteen speakers and all enjoyed a good spirit. It was a remarkable meeting.

[Apostle George Albert Smith Journal] At Dublan, Mexico, "Held Priesthood meeting at 1 P.M. and Reorganized the Bishopric. Bishop Samuel John Robinson having disregarded the advice of the Church regarding new marriages and it is believed and accepted as a fact that he has taken a new wife.

Albert K Thurber Bishop ordained by G.A.S. Gaskell Romney 1st C. ordained H.P. by G.F.R. Anson Bowen Called md C by Pres Ivins The above anmed (sic) brethren were Chosen as the new bishopric and sustained by the priesthood and at another meeting held at 2 P.M. I spoke on the Church and how the Lord has placed men at the head of the temperament required for the circumstances to surround the Church during their Presidency." (2)

We reached home at 6:30 a.m. having attended 31 meetings and traveled 3,730 miles.

I paid my son George Albert $1,000.00. I received from Telephone people $3,500.00. (1)

I went to Provo this morning and attended the Commencement exercises of the Brigham Young University. The members of the board of Trustees, The Faculty and Student body marched [to] the Stake Tabernacle where the exercises were held.

During the present year 74 Professors and Teachers have been employed. 1,756 students have been enroled.

I presented Diplomas and confeted degrees by order of the President and faculty representing the board of Trustees.

My son George Albert Smith delivered address.

We marched to Temple Hill in a rain storm where ground was broke for the Karl G. Maeser Memorial building, Geo. Albert Smith offering the Prayer of Dedication and I breaking the sod [and] making a short speach. Many lifted a sod. I threw one dollar into the hole. (1)

[Apostle George Albert Smith Journal] "Met at 5 PM and discussed BH Roberts case. He refused to comply with the feelings of his associates." (2)


[Quorum of Twelve] The Twelve Apostles and the First Council of the Seventy call B. H. Roberts before them, accusing him of questioning the good faith and honesty of the First Presidency and the general authorities. Roberts had previously published an open letter to Richard R. Lyman, a Democrat and son of Apostle Francis M. Lyman, expressing his opposition to Apostle (and Senator) Reed Smoot's political involvement. Roberts stated that he thought it unwise for Church leaders to run for political office. (3)
