[Apostle John Henry Smith] In company with Heber J. Grant and Matthias F. Cowley, I called upon T. G. Webber and John C. Cutler and talked over the question of trying to secure the government building on the Tithing office corner. (1)

-- Sunday, Jan 22, 1899
[Apostle Rudger Clawson] 7 p.m. Continuation of First Ward Conference. Bp. J. B. McMaster was proud of the organizations of the ward. Spoke of the work done on the new meeting [house] (in which we were then met). Something like $5000 had been expended. While many were doing their duty, some fail. 145 families in ward, total number of souls 703. Tithing paid in 1898â€"$2288.09. (2)

-- Thursday, Feb 2, 1899
[Apostle John Henry Smith] Prest. Lorenzo Snow, Geo. Q. Cannon, and Elders F. M. Lyman, Myself, Heber J. Grant, Geo. Teasdale, Anthon H. Lund, M. F. Cowley, Abraham O. Woodruff and Rudger Clawson met at the Temple and had prayers. We voted to give the Tithing office corner to the government for a building. (1)

[Apostle Rudger Clawson] 10 a.m. Conference called to order by Bp. Thomas Harper. While the organizations fall short in many things, the reports showed that the ward had made considerable progress during the year 1898, and that faith was increasing in the hearts of the people. The tithing paid in 1898 by the ward was $462.00â€"an amount that really could have been doubled. (2)
